Manifesto

The Writespace Manifesto

Writing is a private act. The tool you write in should treat it that way.

1. The blank page comes first

Every UI element earns its place. Sidebars hide on demand. Toolbars disappear when you start typing. Zen mode strips it down to title and prose. The work is the point. The chrome is overhead.

2. Your words are not training data

We will not feed your drafts to anyone’s model. Not ours. Not a vendor’s. Not “to improve the service.” If a future Writespace feature needs your content, we’ll ask first, and the default will always be no.

3. AI is a guest, not a host

Writespace ships with no built-in generation. If you want an agent in your work — Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, your own — you mint a token and bring it in. You own that decision. You can revoke it in one click.

4. Speed is a feature

Sub-100ms page loads. Keystroke-fast typing. Cmd-K instead of menu trees. If a feature makes the app slower, it goes back to the drawing board.

5. No streaks, no badges, no nudges

The reward for writing is having written. We will not gamify your craft. We will not send you a push notification because you missed a day. We trust you to know your own rhythm.

6. Portable by default

Everything you write can be exported in full, in plain formats, at any time. Markdown. DOCX. JSON for the structured stuff. If we ever shut down, you walk away with your work intact.

7. Bounded complexity

Some apps grow until they collapse under their own weight. We pick the smallest set of features that lets a real writer do real work, and we say no to the rest. Databases without rollups. Tags without ontology. Plans without dependencies. Enough, and no more.

8. The price is the price

Free tier is genuinely free. Pro is a fair monthly fee. Lifetime is a fair one-time fee. No usage tiers. No per-seat surprises. No “talk to sales.”

9. We are not a platform

Writespace is a tool. You will not be asked to invite your team. You will not be nudged to share a workspace. If you want to collaborate, we’ll build the smallest thing that works. We are not trying to become the next workspace conglomerate.

10. Quiet wins

The best writing tool is the one you forget you’re using. We measure our success in pages written, not minutes engaged. If we’re getting in your way, we’ve failed.

If this resonates: start writing free.

If it doesn’t: there are plenty of great tools out there. Pick the one that fits.

Start writing.

Free forever for a single writer. No credit card. Thirty seconds to your first draft.
